HTC Welcomes 2026-2027 Jesuit Volunteer, Molly Malague

Molly Malague first became aware of Jesuit Volunteer Corps (JVC) in high school from her grandmother and thought it was cool to spend a year living in community with others while focusing on simple living and service and wanted to jump right in. She was bummed that she was still several years away from meeting the age requirement of 21 but kept JVC in mind.

This spring, Molly graduated with a degree in psychology from Harvard University and entered JVC through which she interviewed with sites around the country. Originally from New Jersey, Molly was drawn to HTC because New Orleans sounded like a great adventure to a very different environment than her own. In talking with Eva and Nate (25-26 JV), she got the sense that hospitality is at the core of our mission and that we try to co-create a functional but fun environment with our team and guests.

In late August, Molly arrived in New Orleans with a group of 4 other JV’s from around the country who are continuing the tradition of living together and sharing meals, transportation, and engaging in JVC community while performing full-time service work.

In her first few weeks at HTC, Molly is learning how to step into the role of hygiene coordinator, a fast-paced role that is at its peak intensity in late summer, when we have over 100 shower signups each day. Molly loves the energy, stating:

“These are very lively mornings and I enjoy it. It keeps you on your toes, you never know what's going to happen next, and that's what's most fun and most challenging.  I'm embracing the atmosphere as it comes. There are so many inspiring characters both guests and co-workers and everyone helps each other out.”

Molly has an appreciation for teamwork. Growing up, she developed a love of sports trying to keep up with her two older brothers who were often outside playing basketball in the driveway. She played many sports throughout high school and continues to run and attend track and field meets with her family. She enjoys the daily walk from the JV house to the Center, especially in the mornings as she readies herself for the day.

Molly is excited to learn as much as possible at HTC and soak up the community in New Orleans with her friends and roommates. A highlight of her time so far was stopping by a recent art day at Rebuild where organizers for the Let Us Not Forget Vigil met to make beautiful signs honoring the lives of unhoused individual. She loved everyone was so welcoming and thoughtful and that the effort was meaningful.

We’re excited to have Molly on board and look forward to the many ways we will grow together during her JV year.
